First off, to clear up a misconception... broadband users who use a router, (hardware firewall), or even a software firewall are NOT protected by default. Spyware will use the same open ports as your web browser/email/IM programs.

Q. Dean, love your column. Problem: My laptop has picked up what I think is a malicious software program called "ad.yieldmanager." It appears to acquire the sites that I visit, and then sends me unsolicited pop-up ads for similar products. I am running Windows XP and use the ATT.Yahoo Web browser. Norton Anti-Virus and Spybot don't catch/kill this "spyware." Ideas? Help? Thanks,
