Firefox: A Way Around Spyware (Addict 3D)

I have been using Firefox for two years. In 2006, I used PC Tools' Spyware Doctor antispyware, and in 2007 I used Webroot's Spysweeper. Neither ever found anything.

Puresafetyhere.com, which promotes rogue anti-spyware program VirusHeat, is a malevolent browser hijacker designed for malicious purposes. Puresafetyhere.com is often brought to your computer by various Trojans through browser security cracks. Upon execution, Puresafetyhere.com will change your homepage to www.puresafetyhere.com and redirect it to various malicious websites that are producing and promoting malicious applications. Puresafetyhere.com modifies registry to start at every Windows boot and by doing so, it will annoy you with numerous notifications of imaginary errors every time you turn on your computer. In addition, it can steal your personal and financial information to a remote hacker and slow down your system severely. Puresafetyhere.com is also known to be extremely difficult to eliminate.

VirusHeat, or VirusHeat v3.9, is a rogue anti-spyware application designed to scare you into purchasing VirusHeat's full version with misleading warning messages that pop up on your Taskbar. VirusHeat is usually downloaded and installed via ZLOB/MediaAccess Codec installer from an adult site. Once you're infected, the Zlob Trojan will display misleading warning messages. VirusHeat warning messages claim that your computer is infected with dangerous parasites in an attempt to trick you into purchasing VirusHeat's commercial version. In addition, VirusHeat may generate annoying popup advertisements that may cause unstable system performance. VirusHeat is known to be a clone of AntiVirGear.

I have been using Firefox for two years. In 2006, I used PC Tools' Spyware Doctor antispyware, and in 2007 I used Webroot's Spysweeper. Neither ever found anything. I use my computer for a lot of research and am a very careful computer user, but I'm concerned that Firefox does not seem to be "covered" by those programs.

The organisation said the different ways malware can be packaged will mean some duplication in its figures, but the broad trend showed a steep rise. The organisation uses the samples to test security programs to see how many they can spot and stop. Finnish security firm F-Secure said it had seen a doubling in the number of pieces of malware it detected in 2007 compared to 2006. Most of the malicious programs detected by these security organisations are aimed at the various versions of Microsoft’s Windows operating system. The vast majority of these unique malicious programs will be made up of elements from older viruses that have been scrambled to look fresh. He added that hi-tech criminals were adopting several tactics to avoid being spotted by anti-virus programs which try to spot the “signature” of each malicious program they know about.
