Broadband users have been alerted to the dangers of newer styles of online advertising on websites, while website managers have been advised to stick to more traditional methods such as banner advertising. Facebook users complained about the intrusiveness of Beacon, which stored and passed on information about consumers’ shopping patterns, leading to an ‘opt-out’ option. Broadband users should be aware of certain tracking forms of advertising, according to government initiative Get Safe Online, as this can be a way for spyware to install itself on computers in a trojan attack which sometimes involves viruses affecting performance. However, anti-spyware software is now freely available and can prevent concerns which may be raised about the increasing number of advertising methods which can track behaviour. True, it slowed down program loading a bit whilst it checked for spyware, and the response was very slow while it was doing a system scam, but this is to be expected. I was by no means the only user to have serious issues with this new version, including regular lockups and crashes requiring a reboot, and the inability to send email unless I disabled the antivirus “feature”. It’s worth mentioning that Spyware Doctor was formerly on the PCPro “A list”, but was later superseded, and now PCPro don’t include this category as they reckon that you can get a top notch security suite for little more than you would pay just for Spyware Doctor. I’m not sure the original post/letter is about Spyware Doctor slowing the PC down but the PC being slow as a result of the virus doing something to it. More Spyware News

The ad was pulled from the Stuff website this morning, and measures have been put in place to check ads more thoroughly in future. The rogue website in this case pretended to scan a person's computer for malware such as trojans, spyware and viruses and returned several positive (and fraudulent) results. Clicking on the "X" on the top right hand side of the window should close this window, or if people are in doubt they can shut down their entire browser. However, if you download AdwareRemover2007 manually, it will prompt you to purchase its full commercial version to remove all non-existent threats. In addition, AdwareRemover2007 may cause a sluggish performance of your computer and the immediate removal of AdwareRemover2007 is recommended.

IBM has teamed with ACI Worldwide, an electronic payment software company, to develop a payment system powered by IBM's open standards based System Z platform. The new offering will include IBM's DB2 database, WebSphere middleware and Tivoli management software as well as its Crypto-chip technology. It will also run a specially optimized version of AIC's payment processing software.
